Enactment of new criminal laws for country's progress
India set for significant overhaul of criminal justice system

NATIONAL, April 20, 2024: Chief Justice of India (CJI), Dr Justice DY Chandrachud, stated that the recent enactment of new criminal laws is a clear indication of the country's progress and development. Speaking at a conference in New Delhi Saturday, Dr Chandrachud underscored need for implementation of three criminal laws - the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam which will bring about a significant transformation in the country's criminal justice system.
He believes that these laws have modernized India's legal framework and brought it into a new era.
Besides, Dr Chandrachud stressed the importance of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor the progress of criminal trials. He suggested that AI should be utilized to identify any irregularities in the legal processes.
He also stated that the success of these new laws will depend on the adoption of them by every citizen of the country.
