East Bengal Football Club gets new sponsor

KOLKATA, September 02 2020 (HS): City based century old East Bengal Football Club, one of the oldest and most award winning football clubs in the country, here Wednesday confirmed its participation in the multi crore rupee Indian Super League (ISL) professional tournament this year following the assurance of a much awaited sponsorship from a major industry house.
Making the formal announcement in this regard at state Secretariat Nabanna this afternoon in presence of the senior office bearers of East Bengal Club and its new found sponsor Sree Cement Group, Chief minister Mamata Banerjee said Wednesday was a 'historic day' for the club on its 100th year of existence that it would now get the necessary financial assistance from its sponsor for being able to participate in the highly professional and one of the richest football tournaments of the country known as Indian Super League.
She also thanked the Kolkata headquartered Sree Cement for coming forward to become the main sponsor of the club and arrange necessary funds for them not only for the ISL tournament but for all its future ventures. 'I just played the role of a facilitator between these two great organisations', she said amid thunderous applauds.
Thanking the CM for her untiring efforts during the past several months to help East Bengal club in every possible manner to get a suitable sponsor so that they could take part in ISL and other such tournaments along with the city's other great football club - Mohun Bagan Football Club-,all senior representatives of East Bengal including its Secretary Debabrata Banerjee and senior Director of Rs 58,000 crores Sree Cement Sreekant Somany besides state Sports minister Arup Biswas and City Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma hoped that it would be a turning point for East Bengal Club to bring more sporting glory for the state in the coming years .
Had we not received the unconditional cooperation, advice and guidance from the Chief minister in getting a sponsor, it would not be possible for the club to take part in the ISL with full strength this year, said D Banerjee in the meeting.
