Disastrous landslide: IAF in rescue & relief efforts in Wayanad
Deployed a diverse fleet of helicopters despite bad weather conditions

NATIONAL, August 01, 2024: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched rescue and relief operations in Wayanad of Kerala following a disastrous landslide which has resulted in nearly 300 deaths and numerous people missing. The C-17 transport aircraft has transported 53 metric tons of essential supplies, including a Bailey bridge, dog squads, medical aid and other equipment.
The An-32 and C-130 aircraft have also been utilised for transporting relief materials and personnel. So far, over 200 people, including rescue teams and displaced residents were being transported to and from the disaster-stricken zone.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the IAF has deployed a diverse fleet of helicopters, including the Mi-17 and Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH), to conduct hazard assessment and recovery (HADR) operations. IAF aircraft have continued to facilitate the evacuation of stranded people to medical facilities and safe zones, and have delivered essential supplies, ensuring their safe and immediate transportation.
The IAF has stated its commitment to providing all possible assistance to the people of Kerala who have been affected by this disaster.
