Star campaigners made beeline despite weather rebuff

AGARTALA, June 19 2022: Star campaigners of different political parties made a beeline in Tripura despite incessant rains and linked floods are spoiling the campaign mood. Several events of different political parties cancelled owing to the rough weather.
Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Chairman Himanta Biswa Sarma hit the streets in a roadshow here Sunday to appeal people to vote for the BJP in the bypolls due on June 23. Soon after he left for Kolkata, TMC’s national General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee arrived with recently elected Lok Sabha member and popular cine star Shatrughan Sinha.
Banerjee will address an election rally at Surma in Dhalai district tomorrow and prior to that he will be addressing a press conference here. TMC is struggling for a better show in the bypolls to find it relevant in state politics.
Besides them star campaigners like MP Gaurav Gogoi, MP Locket Chatterjee, MP Saugata Roy, West Bengal Ministers Dr Manas Bhuiyan, Firhad Hakim and former Union Minister of State Deepa Dasmunsi arrived to campaign for their respective party aspirants.
Constituencies for by-elections are Town Bardowali and Agartala in west Tripura, Surma in Dhalai and Jubarajnagar in north Tripura districts. Elections will be held on June 23.
