BSF intensifies efforts to combat influx of Bangladeshi nationals
Joint operations with state police and sister agencies prioritised

AGARTALA, July 07, 2024: The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified its efforts to combat the influx of Bangladeshi nationals and smuggling of contraband items in Tripura. IG BSF, Patel Piyush Purushottam Das, has stated that they have increased workforce in sensitive border outposts and launched special operations to crack down on touts and smugglers.
Tripura Frontier of the BSF in a statement Saturday said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards such activities and field commanders have been instructed to conduct intelligence-based operations. To strengthen border security, state-of-the-art surveillance technology, including AI-enabled cameras and facial recognition tools has been implemented.
The statement added that additional teams have been deployed in depth areas and joint operations with state police and sister agencies are being prioritised. In the current year the BSF has seized contraband worth Rs 29 Crores, apprehended 198 Bangladeshi nationals, 12 Rohingyas and confiscated a large quantity of narcotics and psychotropic drugs worth Rs 32 Crores.
During the IG BSF-Regional Commander BGB talks in Shillong, a dossier containing a list of Bangladeshi touts and criminals was handed over to the BGB, who have assured to take action against them according to the law. Both border guarding forces have agreed to identify vulnerable areas along the border and increase coordinated patrols.
