Border tension: MHA asks states to conduct drills

To assess and enhance readiness of civil defense mechanisms

NATIONAL, May 05, 2025: The Union Home Ministry has Monday advised all States and Union Territories to conduct mock drills on May 7 to assess and enhance the readiness of civil defense mechanisms. 

The drills will include operationalizing air raid warning sirens, training civilians on civil defense aspects, providing crash blackout measures, early camouflaging of vital plants and installations and updating evacuation plans. 

The government has also decided to organize a Civil Defense Exercise and Rehearsal across 244 categorized districts on May 7. The exercise will involve active participation from district controllers, district authorities, civil defense wardens/volunteers, Home Guards, NCC, NSS, NYKS and the students. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been holding high-level meetings to discuss countermeasures against the April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
