Big haul: Yaba tablets worth Rs 1 crore seized, two arrested

AGARTALA, February 09, 2024: Two youths were arrested in Kamalpur of Dhalai district in Tripura for possession of Yaba tablets (illegal drug substance) worth Rs 1 crore Friday. The police recovered 39 packets containing a total of 78,000 tablets from their car, based on a tip-off.
Additional Superintendent of Police for Dhalai District, Manvendra Chowdhury, stated that the black market value of the tablets is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore. The police received information Thursday night from intelligence sources that a car with the license plate TR01B Z0648 would be smuggling Yaba tablets towards Dharmanagar.
Acting on this information, the police set up a checkpoint along the route from Fatikroy in Kamalpur to Khowai. The car was stopped at the checkpoint and upon searching it the police found the hidden compartment containing the Yaba tablets.
The tablets were seized and two youths, Tinku Mia and Mridul Hossain, both residents of Bishalgarh, were detained along with the car. The police have initiated an investigation and a case against them filed under the NDPS Act.
