Aroma Mission inaugurates a Field Distillation Unit (FDU)

REGIONAL, November 06, 2025: The Meghalaya Aroma Mission in collaboration with the CSIR–IHBT Aroma Mission, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, inaugurated a Field Distillation Unit (FDU) at Phlangwanbroi village aimed at enhancing rural livelihoods. The ceremony featured Olan Singh Suin, MLA, as the Chief Guest, along with various dignitaries and local farmers.

Suin highlighted the opportunities in lemongrass, bay leaf, and patchouli cultivation, stressing the importance of value addition for economic sustainability. This is the first distillation unit in the constituency expected to boost agricultural productivity and attract visitors.

The event included traditional dance performances and a demonstration of the distillation process, focusing on operational protocols and market-linkage for farmer-producer groups.
