71st Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council
Union Home Minister Amit Shah to preside over the event

AGARTALA, January 17, 2024: The 71st Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) will be held on January 19 in Shillong, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah presiding over the event.
Governors and Chief Ministers from all NEC member states are expected to attend the session, which will take place at the State Convention Center at 9:30 am. 
The NEC, headquartered in Shillong, consists of eight northeastern states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The North Eastern Council (NEC) is a statutory body established under the North Eastern Council Act of 1971 and has been in operation since 1972.
In light of the Union Home Minister's presence in the state capital, the Meghalaya government has imposed a ban on all aerial activities, including the flying of drones.
