MALIGAON, July 04 2020: Northeast Frontier Railway has transported more than 2144 inbound freight trains from March 25 to 30. Out of this 844 freight carrying trains were unloaded during the month of June only. During the month of May, 770 inbound freight trains were unloaded. So there is a significant increase of about 10% in comparison to last month. Goods like FCI rice, Sugar, Salt, Edible oil, POL, Food grains, Fodder, Pulses, Fertilizer, Cement, Coal, Stone chips, Iron/Steal, Potato, Onion, Sand, Gypsum, Maize, Pulses, Auto, Container etc were being transported regularly.
Last month 237 rakes of food-grains, 173 rakes of cement, 24 rakes of automobiles, 45 rakes of fertilizer, 36 rakes of salt, 27 rakes of sugar were unloaded to mention only a few, to not only meet the essential requirement of common people but also to keep the local economic activity going.
It is needless to mention that such huge transportation of food-grains and other items by the NFR helped in avoiding any scarcity within its service area which includes all the NE states and a major portion of West Bengal and Bihar during the current pandemic situation.
In our country, lakhs of corona warriors are fighting at their respective fields against this deadly virus. Railway men of this country are also providing 24 x 7 services to the common people, without which there is hardly any possibility to maintain the supply chain of essential services on a Pan India basis.
During the Nationwide lockdown period, Railways have demonstrated agility and ingenuity to cater to completely new requirements that arose in India’s fight against COVID-19. During this unprecedented situation, Indian Railways has played a significant role in providing its uninterrupted services for transportation of all essential commodities and lifesaving drugs and medical equipments.
It is evident that huge transportation of food-grains, POL and other essential items by the NFR was the main reason for avoiding any scarcity of such items within its service area during the lock-down period.
