1625 candidates to compete in 102 Parliamentary seats
Date of withdrawal of nominations in first phase has passed

NATIONAL, April 08, 2024: The Election Commission of India Monday announced that 1625 candidates will be competing in the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls in 102 Parliamentary constituencies in the country. The assessment was made after the withdrawal of nominations meant for the first phase.
Out of these candidates, 1491 are male and 134 are female. The first phase of voting will take place on April 19.
The national elections will be held in several phases till June 1, 2024 to elect 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. This will be the largest election in Indian history, surpassing the 2019 Indian general election, and will last for 44 days, making it the second-longest election after the 1951-52 Indian general elections.
Some 960 million voters, out of a population of 1.4 billion, are eligible to exercise their franchise.
Notably, Legislative Assembly elections in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim will also be held simultaneously with the general election, along with by-elections for 35 seats across 16 states.
