12-hour bandh by Congress evokes mixed response

AGARTALA, January 18 2021: The 12-hour bandh called by opposition Congress in the state Monday against attack on TPCC state president Pijush Kanti Biswas Sunday evoked mixed response. The call affected normal life and business in some areas of north Tripura while it witnessed thin response in Agartala and most of the towns.
No violence was reported from anywhere. Adequate security deployment was made across the state as a precautionary measure.
Vehicles plied on the roads and major shops were open in the capital city while government offices functioned normally. Congress leaders and supporters restricted their activities around party office at Post Office Chowmuhani.
Police detained 50 Congress supporters in the city for trying to block vehicular movement.
Elsewhere Congress workers blocked the national highway at Kumarghat in north Tripura.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and BJP MP Pratima Bhowmik have enquired well being of Pijush Kanti Biswas.
