GLOBAL: A leader of the BNP, Azizur Rahman Muchabbir, was shot dead in Dhaka Wednesday evening raising concerns ahead of national elections in Bangladesh.
The incident, which left victim's accomplice Anwar Hossain seriously wounded, took place around 8pm (7.30 IST) near Tejturi Bazar, close to Bashundhara City Shopping Complex.
Tejgaon Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Fazlur Rahman confirmed that both victims were shot in an alley beside Star Kabab with Muchabbir later pronounced dead at BRB Hospital. Despite previously serving as joint secretary of the central council of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, he held no official position at the time of his death.
