AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha criticised the previous Left Front governments for neglecting the tourism sector and highlighted the current government's proactive measures to enhance it, resulting in an increase in foreign tourist arrivals. He spoke at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Tripura Heritage Village and Sangeet Experience in Sachindranagar attended by state's Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and other officials Monday.

Dr Saha noted the acknowledgment of Tripura's development by PM Modi, who mentioned his intention to visit the state during a campaign in West Bengal. He referenced Tripura's achievements, such as its strong position in growth metrics, including being second in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income with Niti Aayog declaring it a front runner.

Expressing the government’s commitment to development harmonised with nature, he contrasted the current administration's tradition with the atheistic beliefs of the previous ruling party. Dr. Saha underlined ongoing initiatives in infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, and supporting women through self-help groups (SHGs), stating that the BJP government does development without political bias.

Chief Minister Saha lambasted successive Left Front governments for their inaction in tourism during their 35-year rule, asserting that the current government views tourism as an industry essential for economic growth. He remarked on the development of spiritual centers, like the under-construction 51 Shakti Peethas, as future tourist attractions, declaring the government's inclusive approach towards all societal sectors unlike the dividing policies of the CPIM, which led to industry shutdowns and unrest in the state.
