AGARTALA, March 22, 2024: Tripura made history by winning its first gold medal at the third Northeast Games, thanks to Fatima Begum's impressive performance in the 200m run. She finished first in the women's category with a time of 26.18 seconds.
The games, being held in Kohima, Nagaland, saw Tripura's athletes excel in various events, including table tennis and Pencak Silat. Shreyshi Chakraborty won a bronze medal in table tennis, but narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals after losing to Assam's Anushna Das.
The state's martial arts team also made a mark, winning three bronze medals. However, Deepshikha Sutradhar, Moushumi Deb, Vikas Debbarma, Krishan Debbarma and Lakshmi Rani Tripura were unable to secure medals in their respective events.
In football, Tripura faced a defeat in their third match against Arunachal Pradesh. The closing ceremony of the games, which will continue until March 23, may get an announcement that Tripura will host the fourth Northeast Games next year.
The state's athletes participating in the Northeast Games will be felicitated by the state’s sports authorities for their achievements.
