AGARTALA, November 7, 2019: Tripura government Thursday announced a significant decision to observe holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur – who is credited as an architect of modern Tripura.
August 19 of each year would be a holiday, an official notification read.
The decision would have to be complied by all government and institutional offices as well as educational institutions.
The incumbent BJP led coalition government earlier facilitated renaming of Agartala airport as Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport which was built by the US Air Force during World War II at persuasion of Maharaja.
Several organisations hailed the decision to observe his birthday as official holiday. The announcement is fallout of the decision of state’s council of ministers.
