AGARTALA, December 11, 2019: Joint Movement against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB) has Wednesday night suspended indefinite road blockade protests in Tripura after a meeting with Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Prior to the meeting Chief Minister Deb made an appeal to call off strike and protests against the CAB and help maintain peace and harmony in the state. He also urged the protesting parties and forums for a dialogue.
Tension gripped many places in the state as protests turned violent on Tuesday. Army and Assam Rifles were called at some place to restore peace amid spurt of ethnic tension. At least 30 people were injured in clashes and scores of vehicles damaged.
The strike and road blockade agitation against CAB paralysed life and business in many places over past three days.
Train services remained suspended while traffic on Assam Agartala national highway and important highways remained stalled due to protests.
JMACAB Convenor Anthony Debbarma announced decision to call off agitation after he and a group of protesting leaders held meeting with Chief Minister at latter’s office.
