AGARTALA, September 11, 2019: IPFT is unlikely to tie up with its senior coalition partner BJP in elections to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) slated for early next year. Sources in the party said they have an impression that BJP has been trying to seal a deal with a few seats which under no circumstance is acceptable it.
They asserted IPFT has the capacity and organisation strength to play bigger in the TTAADC and it will even win majority of seats if contested alone.
28 members are elected to the TTAADC. 15 is the majority mark to capture the council
The Governor nominates two members as per provisions of the sixth schedule of the Constitution, but they don’t determine formation of authority.
BJP is determined not to give IPFT upper hand in the tribal council as the party determined to expand its base in tribal areas. Thus party is preparing to contest in all seats in absence of alliance and would not concede more than 10 seats to partner if there is an alliance.
