Covid -19: BJP condemns racial slur in national capital

SHILLONG, March 20 2020: BJP in Meghalaya expressed serious concern over reported cases of racial comments and harassment subjected to the people of Meghalaya, the student community in particular and the people of North-Eastern States in general, studying in various places of the Country, particularly in the National Capital. It said the slur was meant differently with apprehensions that the people from the North-Eastern States are harbingers of the deadly virus [COVID-19].
“And let this letter also serve as a written objection that some people in the National Capital are taking unwarranted advantages of the situation when the Nation with the rest of the world is terrified and going through a crucial situation at the outbreak and in combating against the dreaded virus COVID-19”, party said in a statement Friday.
The disparagement has persisted perhaps in the past and complains have remained unheeded. Therefore, on behalf of the people of the region in general and the people of the State in particular BJP urged upon the concern authority to take appropriate actions to stop it or remedy it, where it believed constitute disrespected harassment and discrimination.
