AGARTALA, October 7, 2019: Congress High Command is expected to declare new face for post of PCC Chief this week. The post fell vacant after resignation of Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarman in wake of differences cropped with central leadership particularly on issue of implementation of National Registrar of Citizens (NRC) in Tripura.
Debbarman reportedly refused to bow to pressure to withdraw his petition in the Supreme Court over contentious NRC as Congress has taken a position to oppose it nationwide.
Sources said the party high command has shortlisted four names for the job. They are former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, former PCC Chiefs Birajit Sinha and Gopal Roy and party’s Lok Sabha candidate and senior leader Subal Bhowmik.
They added that High Command unlikely to consider Barman owing to his age (85) and most probable aspirants are Gopal Roy and Subal Bhowmik.
