CAA protests: curfew relaxed in Shillong city

SHILLONG, December 13, 2019: Curfew has been relaxed for several hours in Shillong Friday where protests against just passed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) turned violent Thursday night. Several business properties and vehicles were set on fire and protestors clashed with security forces during hours of unrest in the city.
The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has in view of the prevailing law and order situation issued an order under Section 144 CrPC relaxing curfew in all curfew bound areas notified under Lumdiengjri Police Station and Sadar Police Station for 12 hours from 10am to 10pm.
People made a beeline outside shops to buy essential commodities.
The Curfew will be re-imposed from 10pm on Friday, the ordered stated.
