Badal Choudhury in jail after weeks in hospital

AGARTALA, November 8, 2019: Rs 640 PWD scam tainted CPI(M) stalwart Badal Choudhury has finally landed his jail at end of his long stint in city hospitals. A court on Friday sent him of judicial custody till November 11 and reserved order on his police remand.
Choudhury spent almost three weeks – first in a private hospital where he himself got admitted ending his hiding and next at the government GBP Hospital. In between he spent mere 30 minutes in west Agartala police station and returned to hospital bed with complaints of chest pain and other health problems.
Bail application of Badal Choudhury was earlier rejected in district court and the High Court. He was made prime accused in the case originally started by the Vigilance Department which was later handed over to the Crime Branch.
Another prime accused in the alleged scam, former PWD Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik, was arrested and in jail after extension of judicial custody.
Meanwhile Chief Secretary YP Singh, who was the Principal Secretary in charge of PWD in 2008, is also wanted in this case connection, but remained elusive despite police searches in Delhi and Gurgaon city.
