AGARTALA, December 04 2022: TIPRA, the party in power in the TTAADC, for the first time said the poll alliance with the BJP is possible if the saffron party in writing justifies the demand of the ‘Greater Tipraland’. Chief of the regional party, Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, told a Kokborok language YouTube channel specifically mentioning the BJP and omitting other parties on mater of alliance ahead of the assembly elections slated for February 2022.
Debbarman will be leading a dharna at Jantar Mantar for a week to knock the union government on Greater Tipraland, a theoretical state, comprising areas inhabited by the Tiprasa people in Tripura and adjoining states. The demand received huge support from the tribes who were similarly swayed by the ‘Tipraland’ demand of the IPFT ahead of 2018 assembly elections in Tripura.
IPFT fought the election as partner of the BJP and now part of the coalition government.
“If the BJP does not give us in writing assuring its commitment to concede the demand for the Greater Tipraland, there will not be any alliance with it”, the royal scion told the Haping TV Sunday.
He warned that the Tiprasa people have to remain united and foil possible attempts to lure party ranks with money power. “We are fighting a serious movement seeking constitutional solution to the problems of our people…Thancha (unity) is a must”, he asserted.
