AGARTALA, August 06 2020: Suspension order against Dr Uttam Bhattacharjee has been withdrawn Thursday at intervention of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Chief Minister got involved in the matter despite he being in self isolation after a couple of members of his family were tested positive for coronavirus.
Earlier Tripura Health service doctors have demanded revocation of suspension order against Dr Bhattacharjee who had allegedly helped out former health minister and MLA Sudip Roy Barman to enter Covid Care Centre at New Capital Complex here on August 2.
Doctor forums have hailed the decision on suspension pulling out against the doctor – a frontline warrior in fight against coronavirus.
Dr Uttam Bhattacharjee was accused of supplying PPEs to Barman and his aides to ensure their access inside the centre and distribute food packets among patients.
West Tripura district magistrate Dr Sandeep Mahatme had ordered Barman to remain under institutional quarantine for a week and afterwards place him under home quarantine for another week. But the 5-time MLA rejected to comply with the order.
The state government also ordered a magisterial enquiry into the whole episode unfolded at the Covid Care Centre. The health department executed suspension of Dr Uttam Bhattacharjee for breach of service terms and mandate.
