Piyong Temjen Jamir, Noted Hindi Scholar, dies

KOHIMA, June 13 2021: Piyong Temjen Jamir, Noted Hindi Scholar and Litterateur, passed away after a prolonged illness at Dimapur. Nagaland Governor, Chief Minister and prominent citizens mourned the demise of Padma Sri awardee.
Governor RN Ravi in his message said he is saddened at the demise Piyong Temjen Jamir.
In a condolence message Governor added that “Padma Shri Piyong Temjen Jamir who was the Principal of Rashtra Bhasha Hindi Training Institute, which is the Nagaland based branch of Rashtra Bhasha Prachaar Samiti Wardha, did outstanding contributions in popularizing Hindi in Nagaland. He also helped Naga folklores and literatures reaching rest of the country through Hindi. He was conferred with many awards in the field of Literature and Education including Padma Shri in 2018. He will go down in history for his contributions to the field of literature and a humanist intellectual who believed in universal brotherhood of mankind.
In his demise the Country has lost a a noted Litterateur and a great thinker.
I on behalf of the people of Nagaland and on my own behalf, convey our heartfelt condolences. I also pray to God to give strength to the family to bear this tragic loss and grant them peace and solace at this hour of pain.
