Local language knowledge must for judicial recruitment

AGARTALA, May 30 2020: Tripura government has made knowledge in local language mandatory to be eligible for recruitment in state’s judicial service. Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath informed that the decision was taken to enhance opportunity for home candidates.
Hitherto many candidates from outside of the state got absorbed in the judicial service and recruitment of local candidates came down to a significant low over the years.
Knowledge in local languages made compulsory in the amendments made in the Tripura Judicial Service Rules.
Minister Nath said that the candidates have to fulfil condition about possessing knowledge in any of official local languages of the state. There will written test on knowledge on either Bangla or Kokborok dialect.
65 percent of state’s population speak Bangla whereas Kokborok is spoken by some 34 percent. Other minority languages constitute 1 percent.
Minister ushered hope that the local aspirants henceforth will get more opening in judicial service.
50 percent recruitment in the judicial service is done by the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) and the High Court directly fills up rest 50 percent.
