AGARTALA, June 27 2020: Week long traditional Kharchi puja where the 14 gods and goddess comprising the dynastic deity of the Tripuri community are worshipped got underway Saturday at Puran Haveli. Hitherto crowds, festival, cultural events and loud cheers are missing this time as priests performed rituals of first day of worshiping.
The event was allowed to happen as there was no restriction on organising a religious event, but it started in low key manner for health issues like social distancing due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb greeted people on occasion of weeklong Kharchi puja. In a message he asserted that the Kharchi puja has been a festival of unity and brotherhood in Tripura.
He said people have to keep out from the celebration this time for compliance of health advisories for own sake and that of others.
Government officials informed that all rituals are being followed as per practices introduced by state’s erstwhile royals.
