EAM asserts India's commitment to preserving cultural heritage
Hyderabad and Lucknow recognised as UNESCO Cities of Gastronomy

NATIONAL, December 07, 2025: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserted India's commitment to preserving cultural heritage at the 20th Session of the Inter-governmental Committee for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in New Delhi Sunday.
Highlighting India's numerous UNESCO heritage sites, he acknowledged the country's global efforts in heritage conservation. Jaishankar celebrated traditions, languages and festivals as essential components of culture, emphasizing their collective ownership and generational enrichment.
He praised Hyderabad and Lucknow for their recognitions as UNESCO Cities of Gastronomy and commended UNESCO's role in safeguarding intangible heritages.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also graced the occasion. He reiterated the importance of protecting living traditions for future generations.
The session's inaugural ceremony took place at the Red Fort attended by dignitaries including Delhi Chief Minister and UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany.
