AGARTALA, August 05 2020: Tripura Health service doctors have demanded withdrawal of suspension order against Dr Uttam Bhattacharjee who allegedly helped out former health minister and MLA Sudip Roy Barman to enter Covid Care Centre at New Capital Complex here on August 2.
They raised the demand after holding a meeting at the Agartala Medical College & Hospital Wednesday. They said charges against the ‘erring’ doctor untrue and the action was unwarranted.
All Tripura Government Doctors Association (ATGDA) has regretted that such decision would hinder work of the doctors devoted in Covid-19 duties.
Dr Uttam Bhattahcerjee was accused supplying PPE to Barman and his aides to ensure their access inside the centre and distribute food packets among patients.
West Tripura district magistrate Dr Sandeep Mahatme had ordered Barman to remain under institutional quarantine for a week and afterwards place him under home quarantine for another week. But the 5-time MLA rejected to comply with the order.
The state government has ordered a magisterial enquiry into whole episode unfolded at the Covid Care Centre. The health department ordered suspension of Dr Uttam Bhattacharjee for breach in terms of service and duty.
