AGARTALA, August 17 2022: Police have cracked the daring theft incident at the police headquarters occurred on intervening night of August 15 and 16. They have claimed to have arrested five youths including two who stole 165 dormant files from a cabin.
The incident triggered political debate with Congress demanding judicial probe to be headed by a sitting High Court judge. The party alleged a deep rooted conspiracy in to the incident to ‘destroy classified case files’.
But police now confirmed the incident was a general theft case committed by the history-sheeters. The detainees who were picked up with help of the CCTV footage have confessed involvement.
Meanwhile the police headquarters in a statement informed the files were stored as dormant and meant for weeding. It however conceded that there was a security breach and security of the complex was getting reviewed.
