AGARTALA, January 26 2023: CPI(M) and Congress though in agreement to contest forthcoming Tripura assembly elections as coalition partners, but differences have cropped up over seat sharing. Congress is reportedly not happy with 13 seats allocation by CPI(M) and sought to raise it to 17.
CPI(M) led left front announced its list of candidates yesterday declaring 47 candidates and leaving mere 13 seats for Congress. The Congress was given seats where party performed well even during long drawn rule of the left front.
Congress leaders who negotiated a deal with the CPI(M) expressed ire over the seat allocation during their discussions with left leaders Thursday. They demanded at least four more seats to add in its kitty.
Three of four seats which Congress has been pushing are SC reserved. They are Barjala, Badharghat and Pabiacherra.
The party also wants Bishalgarh constituency from where younger brother of MLA Sudip Roy Barman was aspiring. This constituency has been a traditional bastion of the Congress.
Sources said CPI(M) is likely to budge at the intervention of its politburo leaders and there is a possibility of altering left front list.
