AIZAWL, October 27 2021: Office of the Chief Electoral Officer issued a rejoinder to the media community today, regarding a news item published in a local daily English Newspaper October 26. The news item appearing under the headline “Special Polling Booths for Brus Unlikely: CEO” misrepresented the CEO’s statement.
He was reportedly quoted to have said that “We have not received any instructions from the ECI as regard to the Bru voters (now residents of Tripura) till now. In fact, there is no plan to allow the Bru voters to exercise their franchise in their camps as of now.”
Bye-election to the 4-Tuirial (ST) assembly constituency will be held on October 30.
The CEO’s office said that this is a misrepresentation of the CEO’S statement to the said reporter where he had said that, “Standard arrangements are being made and as of now No Special Arrangements are made”.
The office of the Chief Electoral Office requests the media fraternity that in the context of the sensitivities of such issues, media should refrain from quoting people erroneously.
