AGARTALA, November 29, 2025: Former MLA and senior indigenous leader Rajeshwar Debbarma expressed serious concern regarding the “poor condition” of the Royal Cremation Ground at Battala in Agartala highlighting its historical and cultural significance.
In a letter to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, he noted that during a recent visit—marking the death anniversary of Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarman—he was appalled by the site’s state, which was littered with garbage and in disrepair. Debbarma underscored the need for the site that serves as the final resting place for royal family members to be recognised and preserved as a protected heritage site.
He urged the Chief Minister for immediate actions, which includes regular cleaning and sanitation of the area, restoration of damaged structures, installation of waste management systems, deployment of security personnel to prevent vandalism and official recognition as a heritage site.
Debbarma concluded by expressing confidence that with prompt governmental attention, the Royal Cremation Ground could be restored and preserved for future generations.
