
AGARTALA: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Saturday ushered hoped over introduction of the Vande Bharat Express train from Tripura while highlighting his request to the Union Railway Minister for the extension of the double-line railway to Sabroom.
Chief Minister was speaking during the flag-off ceremony for the Agartala–Karimganj–Agartala MEMU train service. He reflected on the historical evolution of railway services in Tripura marking milestones from 1964 to recent upgrades under the Act East Policy initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr Saha stressed the importance of improved rail services for the state, noting that the MEMU train represents the first of its kind in the Northeast and features amenities such as a GPS system and CCTV surveillance for passenger safety. He mentioned plans for the electrification of approximately 271 kilometers of railway lines in Tripura by 2026 and reiterated the need for additional express trains to various destinations.
Key administrative officials and representatives attended the event showcasing a collaborative effort in enhancing rail infrastructure in the region.
