AGARTALA: Tripura police headquarters Saturday established a high-level team to investigate the death of DGP Anurag Dhankar, who died in his office on July 20. The family of the deceased along with opposition parties has called for a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his passing.
The investigation will be led by the Superintendent of Police of the West district and is apparently characterised as a fact-finding enquiry focusing on the events leading to the DGP's tragic death. Dhankar had assumed his role in April last year.
A Unnatural Death (UD) case (2026WAG045) was filed at the West Agartala Police Station immediately after Dhankar was found deceased. The investigation order specifies that Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruba Nath and the current Investigating Officer, Sub-Inspector Shubhajit Deb, will assist in this probe.
The involvement of the Tripura Police Crime Branch and the Cyber Crime Unit may also be requested if deemed necessary, the order stated.
The investigative team is required to provide weekly reports on their progress in the inquiry.
