Tripura celebrates Ker Puja amid traditional ritual
AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha graced the traditional Ker Puja, an important ritual of Tripura, at the Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala Tuesday. He extended his wishes for happiness and prosperity to the people of the state.
Chief Minister highlighted the significance of this puja noting that the term "Ker" in the Kokborok language signifies a boundary symbolising protected spaces where this puja is traditionally held. Originally celebrated throughout Tripura, the event is now contained within a specific space in the palace compound.
Dr Saha explained that the Ker Puja, also described as Vastu Puja, has historical roots dating back to the royal period and is intended to pray for the overall well-being of Tripura's people, safeguarding them against epidemics, disasters and all calamities. The Chief Minister pointed to the inter-community aspect of the celebration, pointing out that people from various castes and clans come together to honour this tradition.
He expressed joy over the current government's initiatives to respect and promote the rituals from both the janajati (indigenous) communities and the royal heritage. Reflecting on prior celebrations, he reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure that such rituals receive appropriate recognition and vitality.
Dr Saha conveyed his hopes for a future filled with happiness and peace, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of inclusivity and development for all.
BJP state president Abhishek Debroy and tribal community elders accompanied Chief Minister at the event.
