Triprua government identifies illegal rehabilitation centers
AGARTALA: The Mental Health Authority of Tripura has recently issued two show-cause notices to 19 unauthorised private rehabilitation centers. The notice is directed at 'Swapna Foundation' in Agartala and other facilities across the state accusing them of operating without the necessary registration that allegedly harmed patients' health.
The notices are returnable within a week with reasons as to why action against the de-addiction rehabilitation centres will not be taken. The centres were warned of unilateral action on account of non-compliance.
The notices cautioned the organisations against providing mental health and substance abuse treatment without valid registration as mandated by the Mental Health Care Act 2017. These organisations were advised to respond within seven days to avoid legal repercussions.
The notices specified that the Mental Healthcare Act stipulates that registration is compulsory for all rehabilitation centers, which must adhere to specific standards set by the State Mental Health Authority. These include safety protocols, food quality, room dimensions, disability-friendly infrastructure and biomedical safety.
The authority stated that the measures necessitated the issuance of the show-cause notices to ensure patient safety and rights are upheld as per the Mental Health Care Act 2017.
