NATIONAL: In a significant move to enhance the convenience for residents, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a feature in the Aadhaar App that allows people to add or update their email IDs directly, effective from July 1, 2026, for six months. This development eliminates the necessity of visiting an Aadhaar center, aligning with UIDAI's commitment to expand user-friendly digital services as part of the larger digital India initiative aimed at achieving a developed Bharat (Viksit Bharat).
Since the launch of this service, there has been a substantial response, with over 250,000 people updating their email addresses within just two days. Linking email addresses to Aadhaar enables users to receive real-time notifications whenever their Aadhaar authentication requests are made, thereby enhancing transparency and security. This feature ensures that Aadhaar number holders are informed about the usage of their Aadhaar data for various purposes.
The Aadhaar App is designed to simplify the process of managing Aadhaar-related services, now allowing users to directly update their mobile numbers and addresses from their smartphones. Alongside the email update feature, more than 4 million users have successfully updated their mobile numbers and approximately one million have utilized the app for address updates.
UIDAI actively encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to manage their email IDs in Aadhaar, accessible through the updated Aadhaar App available on both Android and iOS platforms. The Android app can be downloaded via the link (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.gov.uidai.pehchaan&hl=en_IN), while the iOS version is available (https://apps.apple.com/in/app/aadhaar/id6744029871).
