AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha highlighted the state government's commitment to improving health services at the International Nurses Day celebration held here on Wednesday. He praised the significant decrease of 80% in referral patients that can be attributed to the improved local medical facilities in the state's own healthcare facilities.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of nurses, citing the contributions of Florence Nightingale, and asserted the need for a medical university and additional super-specialty hospitals including a new medical college and an eye hospital to prevent patients from seeking care outside the state.

He acknowledged the critical role of nurses and urged them to acquire skills to thrive in challenging environments. Dr Saha also mentioned the expansion of nursing education in the state with 153 nursing staff already appointed in government service and plans for 100 more.

The event was attended by senior health department officials and doctors.
