Runiel Debbarma named as Chief Executive Member in TTAADC
AGARTALA: Tipra Motha, the ruling party in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), initiated measures Monday to create a new administration. The new setup is expected to replace old faces with a new team as the regional party declared nominees for three positions.
Newly elected members of the council and senior leaders joined a meeting to give shape to the new administration. The meeting was virtually chaired by party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, who is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai.
Pradyot surprised many by appointing 37-year-old Runiel Debbarma as the Chief Executive Member (CEM), who is the head of the council's administration under the sixth schedule of the Constitution. Another young leader, Bhavaranjan Reang, will serve as Chairman (similar to a legislative Speaker) in the council.
The meeting also endorsed retired bureaucrat Chandra Kumar Jamatia as the only Executive Member (EM) in the TTAADC. He is the eldest among the trio.
Tipra Motha, in a statement, said that the decision on appointments of more Executive Members would be made after the completion of elections for the Village Committees (VCs), which are similar to Panchayats in general areas.
Monday's appointments hold significance as the new Chairman, CEM and EM come from three major indigenous communities - Reang, Tripuri and Jamatia. Many attribute this decision to be strategic as it comes before the upcoming VC elections and the state assembly elections in 2028.
