Rise in sexual violence against women and minor girls

REGIONAL: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav convened a meeting with Director General of Police Rupin Sharma Saturday to address the alarming rise in sexual assault incidents against women and minor girls. Expressing significant concern during the discussion at Lok Bhavan at Kohima, the Governor urged a thorough review of the current law and order situation and the effectiveness of ongoing measures to combat such crimes.

Stressing the necessity for immediate and exemplary action against offenders, the Governor highlighted the critical importance of ensuring the safety and security of women and children. He called for enhanced vigilance, robust preventive strategies and swift investigations into all reported cases to create a safer environment.

The Governor mandated the police department to escalate efforts in combating crimes against women and children, improve monitoring mechanisms and guarantee timely support and justice for victims. He also pointed to the importance of public awareness and community involvement in preventing such offenses suggesting that a collective societal approach is essential.

In response, the DGP provided an update on the current situation, detailing ongoing investigations and polices being implemented to protect women and children throughout the state. The Governor reaffirmed the stance that all crimes against women and children must be addressed decisively reinforcing the commitment to safeguard all citizens.
