Police have critical role of humanity and professionalism: CM
AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha underlined the critical role of humanity, sensitivity and professionalism within the police force during the passing-out parade of the 92nd batch of newly appointed Police Constables at the TSR 2nd Battalion headquarters at RK Nagar in Agartala Saturday. He affirmed the government's commitment to evolving the Tripura Police into a modern, technology-based and people-focused entity underlining the importance of earning respect and recognition through dedicated service.
469 Constables and one TSR Rifleman (GD) graduated after their training at the event.
Dr Saha lauded the longstanding history of the Tripura Police, recalling its origins from the princely era, evolving into its modern structure established in 1965. He said Triprua police have celebrated 150th anniversary and highlighted its significant achievements, including receiving the President's Colours for effective counter-terrorism efforts over the past three decades.
Expressing the high expectations of the public from police ranks, Dr Saha outlined the state government's transparent recruitment process that has recently led to the appointment of 975 constables. He reassured the new officers that their uniforms symbolise courage, responsibility, discipline, honesty and the trust of the community.
He acknowledged the increasing involvement of women within the force as the state government is committed to gender empowerment in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives.
He advised the new recruits that they are often the first source of hope for persons in distress and encouraged them to balance law enforcement with maintaining humanity and professionalism. Dr Saha also highlighted the comprehensive training programmes including subjects such as traffic management, disaster management and cyber training, which will prepare them for future duties.
He informed the approval of hiring 218 Sub-Inspectors and an additional 916 constables to enhance police capabilities. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha and Director General of Police Anurag, were present at the ceremony signifying the event's importance in reinforcing the link between law enforcement and community welfare.
