HYDERABAD: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha Saturday honoured the doctors and the medical personnel at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad for successfully performing 2,000 kidney transplant surgeries. This achievement is a significant milestone for the public healthcare system in Telangana, the minister stated.
During the ceremony, the Minister praised the dedication of the entire medical team and highlighted the advancements made in government hospitals under the leadership of A Revanth Reddy. These hospitals now offer healthcare services comparable to corporate facilities.
Damodar Rajanarasimha also underlined the accessibility of kidney transplantation, which was previously costly. The Telangana Government now provides free organ transplant services to economically disadvantaged patients through the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme covering both the surgery and lifelong post-operative medications, he stated.
The Minister also mentioned the establishment of a comprehensive kidney care framework with over 100 operational dialysis centers and an additional 79 in development. The newly inaugurated State Organ Transplant Centre at Gandhi Hospital aims to enhance transplant capabilities while the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Sanathnagar is being developed as a Centre of Excellence dedicated to organ transplantation.
