"Nasha-mukt Yuva – Shikshit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan"
AGARTALA: Tripura Governor N Indrasena Reddy participated in an event themed "Nasha-mukt Yuva – Shikshit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan" (Addiction-free Youth – Educated India Pledge Campaign) at the Tripura Central University here Sunday. This initiative, organised collaboratively by 'My Bharat' and the university, aims to mobilise the community in Tripura to combat drug abuse framing it as a movement led by the people rather than just a government effort.
Governor Reddy underlined the urgency of the campaign that seeks to inform both students and the broader public about the harmful consequences of drug use while promoting a culture of saying "No" to drugs. He highlighted ongoing governmental efforts since 2014 aimed at tackling the drug crisis highlighting the significance of the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) in enhancing justice and equity in service delivery alongside focusing on sustainable practices in water management.
The governor mentioned the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' (Drug-Free India Campaign) inaugurated on August 15, 2020 as a central piece of the nation's strategy against narcotics. Initially rolled out in 272 districts, this campaign has now been expanded nationwide.
Its approach includes enforcement through the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), public awareness initiatives conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and the provision of treatment and rehabilitation through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Highlighting Tripura's precarious position due to its proximity to international borders and the resultant vulnerability to drug trafficking, Reddy pointed out the targeted assault on the state’s youth, which poses a dire threat to their future and community wellness.
The event saw participation from various stakeholders, including government officials, educators, activists and the general public with notable figures such as Professor Debabrata Das, the Vice-Chancellor of Tripura Central University, and District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar in attendance.
