AGARTALA: A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, and the Ramakrishna Mission & Math in Viveknagar, Agartala to establish and operationalise the Ramakrishna Mission School of Languages and the Centre of Human Excellence marking a pioneering initiative in the northeast India. The signing ceremony held at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala Tuesday was attended by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and Minister for Industries & Commerce Santana Chakma along with senior government officials and representatives of the Ramakrishna Mission.
Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Industries & Commerce Department, highlighted the unique nature of this institution and confirmed that all necessary approvals have been secured from relevant government departments. The school and centre are anticipated to commence operations within two months with the Directorate of Skill Development tasked with selecting candidates for the courses provided.
The new institution aims to serve not only the people of Tripura but those from other North-Eastern states. It plans to offer training in 18 languages already taught at its centers in Hyderabad and Kolkata, with classes slated to start at the Gangail campus within the same period. Equipped with modern facilities—including a digital library, meditation center and smart classrooms—the institution aims to nurture a comprehensive educational experience.
Chief Minister Saha stated that this initiative represents a significant milestone for Tripura's development. Underlining the need to leverage the youth's potential for national development, he championed the centre’s role in promoting value-based education, personality development and overall human excellence.
The School of Languages is designed to enhance learners' employment prospects by offering structured training in foreign languages such as German, French, Japanese and Spanish alongside Indian languages like Sanskrit, Hindi, and Tamil.
In light of Tripura's strategic position under India's Act East Policy, the Chief Minister pointed out the emergent opportunities in tourism, trade and technology. Proficiency in multiple languages and refined communication skills will be crucial for boosting employability and global competitiveness.
The institution is posited as a hub for not only youth but also their families and interested learners thereby contributing to a knowledge-driven society in the region.
