Media reports on fallen soldiers incorrect: Defence Ministry
NATIONAL: The Defence Ministry has clarified that media reports suggesting the recent acknowledgment of the supreme sacrifice of six soldiers during Operation Sindoor are factually incorrect. The Ministry stated that the nation honored these fallen soldiers promptly with tributes given by the then Director General of Military Operations at a press conference on May 11 last year.
The soldiers were awarded gallantry honours as announced in a press release on August 14, 2025 and tributes were shared via the Indian Army's official social media channels, a readout of the ministry said.
It added the names of the six soldiers are inscribed on the National War Memorial in accordance with established protocols, countering claims that due process was overlooked. The Ministry expressed concern that such narratives misrepresent facts cause unnecessary pain to bereaved families and undermine the dignity of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
It urged all parties to act responsibly and exercise caution in reporting matters related to fallen soldiers avoiding the spread of unverified information.
