Manipur CM makes public appeal to refrain from 'bandh' culture
REGIONAL: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has made a public appeal to all segments of society within the State to refrain from organising bandhs or blockades as a means to express their grievances. He highlighted that such actions often lead to unnecessary violence and chaos detracting from the democratic process and causing significant disruption to everyday life.
Instead, he advocated for alternative forms of democratic agitation that do not impair public order or the well-being of citizens.
Khemchand emphasised that both the State and Central Government are dedicated to addressing the needs and aspirations of the populace in Manipur. He pointed out the negative implications of bandhs, particularly the hardship they impose on daily wage earners and students, who are disproportionately affected during these events.
The Chief Minister specifically noted the detrimental impact on women vegetable vendors, whose livelihoods are severely disrupted during bandhs resulting in financial strain on their families.
He issued a stern warning to agitators contemplating illegal actions that could lead to disorder stating that stringent measures would be taken against those attempting to incite chaos. This call for responsible and peaceful protest reflects a broader commitment to maintaining order while seeking to address legitimate concerns within the community.
