Mandatory policy to check credentials of government employees

By IH News Desk May 22, 2026 184

REGIONAL: Nagaland government has enforced a mandatory policy requiring all unauthenticated State Government employees to submit identity documents for verification under the Personal Information Management System (PIMS). This directive, issued by the Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department Friday aims to strengthen employee authentication and enhance governance.

The department highlighted a history of previous mandates urging employees to link their Aadhaar numbers with PIMS, as outlined in memorandums dated June 14, 2018, August 2, 2018, October 29, 2018 and July 28, 2021. Despite these reminders, numerous employees have not yet completed the Aadhaar linkage leading to issues with identity verification.

To address these challenges, the recent notification mandates that all unauthenticated employees must submit their identity documents to their respective departments. Aadhaar has been made as the primary option for identity authentication. If an employee lacks an Aadhaar card or chooses not to provide it, they may submit any two from a specified list of alternative documents that includes -

a) PAN Card
b) Driving Licence
c) Indian Passport
d) Bank Passbook from their salary account
e) HSLC or equivalent Class X Admit Card showing a photograph, father's name, and date of birth

The notification underlines the urgency of compliance, setting a deadline for all unauthenticated employees to submit the necessary documents by June 3, 2026. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving the authentication process and ensuring effective governance.
