Killing of Naga civilians: NIA arrests two more accused

MANIPUR: A joint team of security officers inclduing sleuths of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two more accused persons in connection with the killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur's Kangpokpi district recently. The NIA, Manipur Police and CRPF made the arrests Satruday marking progress in investigation into the abduction and killing of the Nagas. 

The arrested men have been identified as Lungoulal Vaiphei, a resident of Leilon Vaiphei village and Lunminthang Sitlhou, also known as Jack, a resident of Molhoi Village in the Kuki-majority Kangpokpi district. The police Sunday stated that they are continuing their efforts to arrest other accused persons connected to the case. 

The incident occurred on May 13 when armed men abducted the six Naga civilians from Leilon Vaiphei in Kangpokpi district. 

Their bodies were later found near the village on June 10, sparking protests from both Naga and Meitei communities, who demanded the arrest of the perpetrators. In response to the recovery of the bodies, Naga groups initiated an economic blockade on all routes to Kangpokpi district resulting in a rise in the prices of essential commodities in the Kuki Zo majority district. 

Earlier, on July 10, the NIA, along with the police and CRPF, had arrested a couple from Leilon Vaiphei for their alleged involvement in the killing of the six Naga civilians.
