Jennifer Lopez's latest "Office Romance" hits the Box Office

THE R-rated Netflix romantic comedy 'Office Romance,' which debuted on June 5, features Jennifer Lopez as a stringent CEO whose established no-fraternization policy falters when she embarks on a romantic fling with the character played by Brett Goldstein, a lawyer. Directed by Ol Parker and co-written by Goldstein, the film cleverly intertwines raunchy humor with HR-related mishaps and genuine heartfelt moments quickly ascending to the top of the global charts by June 7 across numerous countries. 

Critics have shown ambivalence towards the film; while Variety praises the palpable chemistry between the leads, RogerEbert.com deems the plot predictable. In contrast, audience reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, citing the film's delightful execution and Lopez's lasting charm. 

Unlike traditional rom-coms, which often delay the couple’s union until the film's conclusion, 'Office Romance' opts for an early and engaging showcase of their relationship dynamics, concentrating instead on the various obstacles that keep them apart.

Jackie, portrayed by Lopez, is grappling with the emotional aftermath of her ex-husband’s infidelity and the pressure exerted by the AirCruz board, which is considering her removal as CEO. Adding to her struggles is her father, Captain Jack Cruz (Edward James Olmos), the company founder, who frequently undermines her confidence. Meanwhile, Daniel must reconcile his professional ethical duties as an attorney with the need to protect his sister. Both characters face significant internal conflicts regarding their growing feelings for one another, exacerbated by the disapproval of Jackie’s best friend and colleague, Sydney (Betty Gilpin).

The ensemble cast also includes notable performances from Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, Will Sasso, Mary Wiseman, Roger Bart, Michelle Hurd and Lisa Gilroy, all contributing humor to the narrative. Ultimately the film's charm and watchability stem from the effortless rapport between Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein creating an enjoyable viewing experience.
